Abstract of the Offer
1. Where (geographically) is it from?
Deacon Innovations is based in South Wales where the robot cells are designed and assembled.
The specialist fixturing is manufactured in the UK. The 6 axis industrial robot is sourced from Canada with sensing technology sourced from overseas.
2. What sort of organisation is offering it?
Deacon Innovations is a small company that offers a full robotics integration service. They have decades of experience designing small scale fixturing to assemble medical devices. These tend to be extremely tricky to manufacture by hand, but Deacon Innovations has the ability to invent manufacturing solutions to enable successful, repeatable manufacturing.
3. What is being offered?
Deacon Innovations is an official UK integrator of Mecademics Meca 500 robot. This robot is a small scale bespoke 6 axis robot, and can be integrated to specific to any customer's needs.
Small scale robotics can be used to perform tasks previously done by humans requiring great skill under magnification, but with a greater degree of accuracy and repeatability.
4. What can it be used for?
The main advantage is that the robotic system is small scale, lightweight, low power consumption and extremely accurate. It can be used for miniature assembly tasks, can be used in challenging environments, is not affected by gravity, can be used in a vacuum and is rated for ISO class 6 cleanroom use as standard.
5. What sort of deal is sought?
We are looking to use our medical device robotic assembly experience in the space sector. Ideally, we are looking for a space organisation that could adopt the technology, specify requirements and work with Deacon Innovations.
Description
Deacon innovations offer integration of the the Meca 500 Robot, the world’s smallest and most accurate industrial robot. The robot is predominantly used to assemble components in manufacturing, especially small-scale medical devices. It is the lightest 6 axis industrial robot in the world, weighing only 4.6kg and it is the most accurate 0.005mm. Built with precision-machined aluminium and zero-backlash gearboxes, the Meca 500 is the world’s most precise six-axis robot. It boasts a repeatability of 5 μm. Despite its small size, it has a reach of 330mm in multiple directions.
Advantages and Innovations
The Meca 500 is a desktop-size industrial six-axis robotic arm with a range of motion reaching 260 mm, enabling it to reach further than currently implemented systems and making it suitable to a diversity of applications within micromanipulation and glovebox operations. Adding to the range of potential applications, the six-axes of motion allow for approaching points of interest from a variety of angles, which improves the effectiveness of tweezer operations. The manufacturer indicates that the system is capable of 5 μm of repeatability, but testing indicates it is capable of 1 μm increments of motion in the Cartesian motion format. While the Meca 500 is proprietary, it connects using TCP/IP protocols and a standard ethernet cable, and with the implementation of RoboDK, a software platform for controlling industrial robots, the control system can itself effectively be controlled through RoboDK, allowing for real time user operation of the arm. This opens up the Meca 500 to external control and custom development, an avenue not currently available with the MicroSupport AxisPro.
